  • Eight Weeks

They said 8 to 10 weeks recovery, so in my mind I thought I would be ready to start swinging a club today. Let me tell you, I am a long way from that. My recovery has been tempered by a freak Achilles heel injury. I have had heal bone spurs for years, and they…

  • Just over 30 days post-op

Just over 30 days post-op and just under 100 days since this journey began. Incision healing well, and I can get back in pool. Digestive system seems to be working with the new plumbing. No limits on diet except smaller meals are better. Side effect of sedentary recovery is I seem to have hurt my…

  • Bye bye staples

Today I met with the liver surgical group. They seem happy with the healing, and they removed all staples. Everyone keeps singing the same song – that my near future treatments will be to scan and monitor for signs of any returning cancer. Now we need to just assess when we can safely get back…

  • CEH Day 10 post op

My first post since surgery.  First of all, I feel grateful nothing went wrong.  The doctors tell me they spent about 6 hours digging out all the bad stuff.  Their feeling is that the surgery was a great success. Now to deal with pain and fatigue.  When I went into the hospital on May 25,…

  • Hiccups and rest

Chris has had some relief today (Thursday) from constant hiccups which seem to be the result of how the organs were moved around in relation to the diaphragm during surgery. He had a CT scan to check for fluid. Mostly he is quite drowsy.

  • Home

Chris is home and back in his recliner! Lots of healing ahead.

  • Labs are back

During Chris’ bowel resection surgery, the tumor in the ilium was removed, along with the appendix, right colon/adjoining lymph nodes and a small lesion in the liver. We are relieved to report that all the biopsy/labs have come back with good news!  Follow-up will be needed with the oncologist for regular scans, but treatment does not…

  • Post Op Day 3

Today was transfer day to a regular room.  Chris is having trouble sleeping due to discomfort, so it makes for long days. He walked around his room some today, and the plan is to get moving more on Sunday.

  • Post Op Day 2

Chris spent most of the day sitting up in the chair. Still working through pain management, but both surgeons have dropped by to reinforce their positive reports from Wednesday’s surgery.

  • Post Op Day 1

Chris was transferred to a step-down room today. His biggest hurdle right now is pain management. They were unable to perform the surgery via the laparoscope so his body has a lot of recovery ahead. He is progressing but slowly as expected. We appreciate everyone’s kind words and prayers…keep ‘em coming.
